Valerie

Raised in Kingston, Jamaica alongside my 5 siblings, I grew up with a great love and respect for the natural world and the often stunning imagery that it presents.

I came to the UK in 1998 to undertake some studies - ostensibly with a view to returning to Jamaica within 3 years. My plans went haywire however when I met and married my husband Mark; I stayed. In January 2006 we spent a weekend with a family member in Cornwall whilst looking for a new home in a small Devonshire town.

Once again plans changed as I fell instantly in love with the wild and rugged beauty of Cornwall. We moved down in the February and I've been photographing bits and pieces of it's beauty ever since.

More recently close family and friends have been encouraging me to 'do something' with my pictures and so it is, I gave birth to the idea of PassingPlaces.

At this point I must express my undying gratitude to my niece Joelle, without whose help and encouragement, PassingPlaces would have died an early death.

And Cornwall...well, it just never stops giving.
